Oakley and Weber Canyon

Oakley lies within the Weber Canyon between Coalville and Peoa, 17 miles from Park City. Oakley's original name was "Oak Creek," which stemmed from the name of a creek that ran east of the present town and was thickly overgrown with oak trees. The city changed its name to Oakley in late 1886 or early 1887. Oakley has maintained its small-town charm and is most famous for its annual Rodeo, held each year on the Fourth of July weekend. This Rodeo, sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Associated, started in 1935. The Rodeo is a multi-day event and features buckin' broncs, raring bulls, cowboys, cowgirls, and rodeo queens to make this a true Western-rooted celebration. The town offers some luxurious ranch properties and more reasonable-priced cabins.
