Have you ever wondered what the sandstone home on Bitner Road on the north side of I-80 and near the entrance to Glenwild was years past? It was once an elegant focal point hotel in the county. The Kimball Hotel-Stage Stop is one of the few remaining original stations of the Overland Stage. The two-story sandstone hotel was built in 1862 and owned by the Kimball family. In the late 1800s, the hotel was a weigh station along the Overland Stage Route. The station also served the Holladay Stage and the Wells Fargo Express Company. Besides a hotel, it contained a large dining room, a bar, a store, and a short time a post office. Passengers traveling east or west found themselves staying in hotel rooms overnight as the hotel was well-known for its food and attracted notable guests. While at the hotel, they ate fresh trout caught by torchlight out of Kimball's Creek, wild sage grouse (now nearly endangered), wild duck, and fresh beef. This Park City real estate gem was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in April 1971.
