Mainly resulting from enduring efforts toward historical preservation, Old Town has retained its small, old-west mining town feel. Main Street is the thriving heart of Park City as a lively, highly-walkable resort town center that features enticing shopping, renowned restaurants, and a multitude of nightclubs. With several newer real estate developments in Old Town and near Main Street, buyers have more options, including modern condominiums, townhomes, and newly preserved historic homes for sale. However, few building lots are still available, and this scarcity sustains the Old Town real estate pricing and helps to ensure future values. At the same time, Old Town’s ideal location solidifies demand. There are few places in the world like the jewel that is Old Town Park City Real Estate.

The majority of Old Town homesites are relatively small, and many homes are built into the steep hillsides that hug both sides of Main Street. There is an eclectic mix of restored miners’ cottages, renovated bungalows, and new construction near Park City Mountain and on the streets of Park Avenue and Daly Avenue. A particularly well-known area within Old Town is the “Gold Coast,” a section of coveted ski-in/ski-out homes that back up onto the runs of Park City Mountain. Old Town is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and many of the 19th-century homes, boarding houses, and schools are also registered historic structures.

Real Estate in the Old Town area of Park City is well represented by its name. Old Town is the original Park City area and holds its own unique history. In 1862, the US soldiers entered Utah to protect the federal mail route. Many of these soldiers were veterans of gold mines in other states. Because of their experience as miners, they identified the mountains and real estate here as the promise of precious metals. In December of 1868, the first mining claim was filed and Park City quickly became famous and our history began. Miners came from many countries. Certainly, no one ever dreamed of present-day Park City which is home to Deer Valley Resort and America's largest ski resort, Park City Mountain. And don't forget the venue for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, which hosted guests from all over the world.

In Park City, success was enjoyed by few, but produced by many; fortunes were made and lost in real estate land mining, ultimately making millionaires of twenty-three men and women. In 1872, one of Park City's silver mines, the Ontario Mine, was sold to George Hearst for $27,000. He ran the mine well and it went on to produce fifty million dollars in the following years. Since silver was discovered in the hills, there have been booms, busts, fires, and freezes, but the historic town's adventurous spirit has never dimmed. Although mining is gone, today great deals can be made in buying and selling Park City real estate in Old Town and Main Street.
