Snow Park (Lower Deer Valley) had a rope tow back in 1929. Perhaps Deer Valley Resort real estate was a dream to a few with vision. Skiing began at Deer Valley in February 1936 with the first held "Park City Winter Carnival" on a north-facing hillside at the head of Deer Valley. The Works Progress Administration (WPA) built ski-trails, toboggan slides, slalom courses, ski-jump takeoffs, and shelter cabins for the events. The first ski lifts appeared in 1946 when two local residents resolved to build an authentic skiing facility in the area with a mechanized ski lift. Using homemade wooden towers and surplus mine equipment they assembled Utah's first lift. "That lift was made out of pine poles that we cut when we cleared the area---we built the wheels and we bought a big Hercules truck engine that sat upon the top," Carpenter stated in 1986. The ski area was called the Snow Park Ski Area. I wonder what real estate cost back then?

In 1981 Edgar Stern founded Deer Valley resort in the same area and added the land above Snow Park.  It opened on Bald Eagle and Bald Mountains, with one double chairlift and four triple chairlifts, and two more infill triple chairlifts were added in the years immediately afterward. In August 2017, Deer Valley was sold to the newly formed multi-resort entity, Alterra Mountain Company, composed of KSL Capital Partners and Intrawest Resort Holdings, LLC. Deer Valley was one of the first resorts to offer ski valets, free parking-lot shuttles, and a state-licensed child care facility, and to uniform all its employees. During the 2002 Olympic games Deer Valley hosted the freestyle moguls, aerials, and alpine men's and women's slalom events. Temporary spectator stadiums were located at each course, the standing areas and stadium combined allowed for approx. 13,300 people to view each event. 99.4 percent of available tickets for events at the venue were sold, totaling 96,980 ski overs witnessing competitions at the resort. Deer Valley is a regular host to FIX World Cup events. Honored with being named the #1 ski resort in North America by the readers of SKI Magazine for an impressive five years in a row, from 2008 to 2012, Deer Valley Resort has found its place in history.
